THE FAR NORTH : LIVING THE LEGEND

Home to polar bears, seals, walrus and whales, as well as to herds of caribou and musk oxen, this is a vast land of pristine beauty. In winter, magnificent northern lights illuminate the sky. There are no roads crisscrossing the wide expanses of Arctic tundra. Until quite recently, travel was only by dogsled, qimutsik, in winter and kayak in summer. Today, the airplane has become the main mode of transportation linking the 14 villages strung along the banks of the Ungava Bay,Hudson Bay and Hudson Strait. A number of Innus (Montagnais) and Naskapis also live here. In Nunavik, the Inuit heart beats in time with nature.
